FAQ’s – Organic Gardening
Generally, all Bonide Products packaged with a tan band on the front label are made from all natural ingredients. In addition, look for the
“For Organic Gardening” logo and statement on the front of the label. The logo
and statement “For Organic Gardening” is your assurance that these products have obtained EPA approval to meet the criteria defined by USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP). Our products carrying this approval are labeled for home garden use only and are not suitable for use in commercial/agricultural organic production. See the list of products below.

Natural insecticides can be chemical, mineral, or biological. The common goal of all three is to kill, repel, or otherwise interfere with the damaging behavior of pests. Natural products can generally be described as chemical compounds or substances produced by living organisms. There are no legal definitions, regulatory oversight, or production standards for products advertised as natural. Bonide uses the tan color identifier on select Bonide products.
An organic pesticide must be produced from materials on the National List of Allowed Synthetic Substances, or come from all-natural substances that are not prohibited. The National Organic Program is administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and includes a set of national organic standards, a list of allowed and prohibited substances, and a regulatory oversight structure. More information is available on their website at http://www.ams.usda.gov/about-ams/programs-offices/national-organic-program
At this time, Bonide’s BurnOut is the only organic product that can be used. All other products carrying this approval are labeled for home garden use only and are not suitable for use in commercial/agricultural organic production.
Bonide does not seek approval from OMRI because OMRI provides organic certifiers, growers, manufacturers, and suppliers an independent review of products intended for use in certified organic production, handling, and processing. Bonide’s products are sold for Residential Use Only and are not meant for production, handling, and processing, with the exception of BurnOut.
