Barley

Barley

Hare barley is a winter annual grass found on agricultural land, disturbed sites, and unmanaged natural areas. Mature plants can reach over 3 feet tall. Stems are round and grow erect, often bending abruptly at the base. Leaves are flat and covered with short hairs, and reach about 8 inches long. Flowers bloom from April to June. Mature flower heads are bristly, dense 1-3 inch spikes with stiff barbs and sharp bases. It reproduces by seed.
