Cocklebur

Cocklebur

A summer annual weed that produces a prickly “cocklebur” and ranges from 6 inches to 6 feet in height. The first true leaves are opposite, all subsequent leaves are alternate. Leaves are triangular to oval in shape with stiff hairs and are approximately 2 to 6 inches long. Leaves are irregularly lobed with leaf margins that have teeth. Leaves have 3 prominent veins on the upper surface of the leaf that come from the same point. Flowers are greenish in color at the end of erect stems. Flowers form egg shaped burs from 1 to 1 1/2 inches long.
