Gumweed

A biennial plant that will reach up to 3 feet in height. The yellow flowers are borne at the ends of branches. At the base of the flower head are sticky bracts, that gives this plant it’s name. The oblong leaves are arranged alternately on the stem and are sticky as well. The leaf margins are serrated and the surface of the leaf is covered with minute resinous dots and they are aromatic. Flowers occur from July through October. This plants is found in most of the United States with the exception of the Southeast corner. Typically found on rangeland, pastures, disturbed sites, and along roadsides in all types of dry soils.
