Hawkweed, Orange

Hawkweed, Orange

Orange Hawkweed is a perennial plant and ranges in height from 10-20 inches. The stems of the plant are hairy and have flowers that are orange to yellow in color. They are similar to the Dandelion, but instead have a cluster of flowers rather than just one. The plant grows well in dry, low soils that are high in nutrient content. The plant has rhizomes, or underground roots, that help it to spread quickly. It should be noted that in some areas the plant is considered invasive and/or a noxious weed and should be controlled by an herbicide. If you suspect you have the plant, please contact your local extension office for possible rules and regulations regarding the plant in your area.
