Heartleaf drymary

Heartleaf drymary

Commonly called Tropical Chickweed or West Indian Chickweed, this warm-season, spreading annual is most common in the warmest regions of the southern United States. The leaves are opposite and spade-shaped. It spreads by seeds and also plant fragments. The best defense for this weed is a thick turfgrass lawn. The flowers are greenish and small in size. The flowers and resulting seeds are sticky and will cling to your clothes and hair. This plant occurs in moist to wet woods and disturbed areas. Removal by hand is not recommended as seeds and plant fragments left behind will root and grow. Systemic herbicides are the recommended control measures.
