Honey suckle is a woody shrub that is very invasive. The Tartarian honeysuckle was first cultivated in 1752 and has become a major pest and spread throughout the entire North American continent. 6 species are on a state or federal noxious weed list, including Tartarian. Some may even have a chemical that inhibits other plant growth. Honeysuckle can reach heights of 20ft. with a width of 10ft. The stems are hollow and easily broken by hand. The leafs are ovate and up to 2in.long. The flowers are fragrant and bloom in early to mid-spring. They can be white to pink depending on the species. The birds love the bushes for food and cover and spread the seed in droppings. It also spreads readily by underground rhizomes. Honeysuckle is a very shallow rooted plant and is easily pulled out root and all by hand.
