Itchgrass

Itchgrass is an annual grass also known as roaulgrass and corngrass in the Rottboellia family of grasses and is distributed throughout much of the south east. It is on the Federal Noxious Weed list. Itchgrass leafs are covered with sharp hairs that can penetrate the skin and cause severe itching, giving it its name. It can grow 3 to 6ft. tall but if left uncontrolled it can reach 10ft. Under the correct conditions of saturated soils the plant can produce up to 16,00 seeds in a single season. It starts production in the early spring and continues all during the growing season. Itchgrass spreads its seed via wind, birds and farm equipment.
