Parsnip, Wild

Wild Parsnip is found on roadsides, in pastures and open areas, and rarely in home lawns. It can grow 2-5 feet tall. The compound leaves are similar to a celery leaf, with many teeth along the jagged leaf edge. It has a light green hollow stem. Recognizing Wild Parsnip is important as it the plant sap can cause skin irritation that in some cases can be severe. The reaction can range from a rash to blisters and can be very painful. Wild Parsnip is a biennial so best control is in its first year of growth while smaller and before it flowers (second year) and goes to seed.
