Prickly Sida

Primarily found in agronomic crops but is also prevalent in gardens, landscapes and lawns. It is found throughout the southeastern United States and as far north as Michigan and some northeastern states. A summer annual with yellow flowers and very small spines at the base of each leaf and branch. Flowers occur singly or in clusters on flower stalks that arise from the area between the stem and leaf petiole. Flowers have 5 yellow petals that are 4 to 6 mm long. Leaves alternate, ¾ to 2 inches long, and inconspicuously hairy. They are oval to lanceolate with toothed margins. Stems are erect, branched, from 8 to 20 inches tall and have hairs. Root has long a taproot with a fibrous structure.
