Vervain, Hoary

Hoary vervain is a short lived perennial in the Verbena family. It is native to the upper mid-west but is now found in most of the US. It is also known as tall vervain and wooly verbena. It will grow to 3ft. tall with coarsely toothed leaves 2 to 4in. long with dense hairs. The upright flower spikes are 1 to 6in.tall with clusters of lavender to pink flowers crowded around the stem and flower from bottom to top. It reproduces by seed which germinate readily. The plant prefers full sun in slightly dry conditions although it will grow in any soil.
