Vervain

Vervain is an upright perennial found most often is the eastern US and rare west of the Mississippi. It prefers moist soils and is often found in meadows, pastures, ditches, and shores. Flowers are located in dense spikes at the end of square stems. It has lance-shaped leaves, blue flowers, and fruits packed tightly together on the stem. It spreads by stems and rhizomes and can grow to a height of 2 to 7’.
